Engage with a fast-growing field of study and practice that's gaining importance in today's world. Leverage our specialized knowledge in both qualitative and quantitative research approaches (employing subjective evaluations, objective measurements, and biological health assessments). Carry out investigations in our state-of-the-art, multi-million-pound research facilities. Master cutting-edge research techniques through training to advance your professional prospects. Enhance your consulting abilities by undertaking a practical work placement. After successfully finishing this PhD program, you'll meet the Stage 2 criteria for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), qualifying you to practice as a health psychologist.
Your initial year will concentrate on PhD project design, along with four mandatory training modules in quantitative/qualitative research methods, professional academic skills, and instructional techniques. You'll also review pertinent literature, formulate a research strategy, refine methodological and analytical capabilities, and finalize your first research project.
You'll refine research methodologies and enhance presentation skills to effectively share your discoveries. The process involves gathering and interpreting data, compiling an extensive literature review, and ultimately composing your PhD dissertation. Research data collection may occur in various settings like educational institutions, medical centers, research labs, or digital platforms, depending on your focus area.
During your enrollment, you'll simultaneously work toward Stage 2 competencies by applying Stage 1 knowledge (from your Health Psychology MSc) while progressing through your PhD. Your doctoral research will partially satisfy the research requirement and may address other competencies based on your studies. Remaining competencies will be achieved through supplementary research or your placement experience.
