Our MRes Economics program serves as the initial phase of our doctoral track, preceding the 3-4 year PhD program. Students also have the option to complete it as a one-year independent MRes qualification. You'll be taught by pioneering researchers who will help you acquire specialized methodologies within our dynamic, research-driven department. The School of Economics prepares graduates for prestigious positions in academic institutions, central banking, policy research organizations, and global consulting firms. Recognized as a top-tier research department in the UK, our School ranked among the nation's top 10 for groundbreaking research in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework. We placed 6th for practical impact and 8th for research infrastructure in REF 2021, while achieving an 87% satisfaction rate in the 2022 Postgraduate Taught Experience Survey.

The curriculum includes rigorous modules in microeconomics, macroeconomics, and econometrics, culminating in an MRes dissertation project. You'll develop sophisticated research capabilities to address complex economic challenges. This program equips students with both the academic foundation for PhD studies and the professional competencies for research-focused economist roles. The one-year MRes pathway remains available for those seeking a terminal master's degree.
