Our approach merges professional translation know-how with academic research in translation studies. As a UK leader in Translation Studies, we're driven by an innovative research agenda that thoughtfully blends proven professional methods with emerging language technologies. These include translation memory systems, terminology management tools, corpus linguistics applications, machine translation, and AI-powered solutions like ChatGPT. The curriculum directly addresses current industry demands, helping you build a competitive professional profile while you learn.

With a hands-on focus, the program offers translation practice between English and these languages: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Greek, Italian, Korean, Polish, Norwegian, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish. Additional languages may be available depending on student interest.

Under the mentorship of working translators and academic specialists, you'll cultivate professional competencies through simulated real-world projects across various specializations. The program provides comprehensive training in linguistic, cognitive, technological, quality assurance, social, and ethical aspects of translation. You'll learn to analyze, articulate, and defend your translation choices while tackling diverse challenges. Through hands-on experience with industry-standard tools - including CAT software, corpus analysis programs, machine translation systems, and ethical AI applications - you'll develop a nuanced understanding of technology's transformative role in the field.
