Our BSc and MPhys Physics with Quantum Technologies programs introduce you to the quantum realm, unlocking diverse career prospects in both industrial and academic settings. Quantum technologies leverage the unique properties of quantum mechanics to achieve what traditional methods cannot. These comprehensive programs explore every facet of this dynamic field - from laser technology and photonics to quantum information systems and computing. Two distinctive features of these programs include: Our renowned Professional Training opportunities: The BSc offers optional paid industry placements, providing practical experience to boost career readiness. MPhys students undertake an extended, graduate-level research placement, either within our prestigious research teams or at collaborating global institutions. Our emphasis on undergraduate research initiatives: All students can pursue paid 8-10 week summer research positions within our departments or through our South East Physics Network. Internal funding opportunities support research projects, conference attendance, or entrepreneurial ventures.
This curriculum blends conventional physics with cutting-edge quantum technology studies, equipping students with essential skills for this growing sector. You'll examine current quantum applications, including internet data transmission systems and Blu-ray laser technologies. First-year students can transfer between any of our specialized physics tracks. Applicants may choose between BSc or MPhys degrees, with the latter offering a direct path to a master's qualification. MPhys candidates complete a dedicated research year before returning for advanced master's-level coursework.
