Enroll in a course accredited by the Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST). Build practical industry skills through our Professional Training placements, with opportunities to work with diverse employers such as government agencies, specialized bakeries, confectionery producers, cereal and dairy manufacturers, and nutrition-focused companies. Be taught by faculty honored with the Queen's Anniversary Prize 2017-18 for Further and Higher Education, recognizing their outstanding research in food and nutrition. Food science combines biology and chemistry to examine food comprehensively. Your first year covers foundational topics like food science and nutrition to establish a strong base for your degree. The second year deepens your knowledge of food component changes during processing and storage. You'll learn about food microbiology and the production of safe, nutritious food while exploring ingredient functionality and nutrition's role in preventing conditions like cancer.
In your third year, you can specialize further by studying subjects such as food chemistry to analyze natural and added food components. You'll also examine food production technologies, food safety, and the significance of food security. Additionally, you'll enhance your understanding of nutrition's impact on diseases such as cardiovascular disorders.
