This program allows you to explore biological systems at multiple scales, from molecular interactions to entire ecosystems. Your first year establishes core bioscience principles, creating a strong base for advanced study. In year two, you can focus on specific areas like animal biology, cellular processes, or immunology, or select interdisciplinary modules covering biochemistry, microbiology, and brain science. The final year deepens your expertise through specialized subjects such as pharmacodynamics, genetic mechanisms, and human-environment interactions, culminating in a capstone research project that synthesizes your technical, analytical, and communication abilities.
Field studies occur both locally and at off-site locations, giving you real-world scientific experience. Destinations include Birdworld, the Natural History Museum, Merristwood College, the Millennium Seedbank, and Surrey Wildlife Trust. Our state-of-the-art £12.5 million Health Innovation Lab provides immersive training, with digital displays demonstrating experimental procedures and research methodologies.
Equipped with cutting-edge technology, the lab enables diverse investigations - from analyzing biotech microorganisms and pathogens to examining cellular structures and genetic processes. You'll perform your first hands-on experiment during the initial fortnight of studies.
