This PGCE Secondary History Education program certifies you to teach history at the secondary level in all state-funded schools across England and Wales.
The program combines academic theory with closely monitored teaching practice, cultivating skilled and creative history educators who can make this crucial subject approachable for every student. You'll complete placements in diverse school environments, gaining comprehensive insight into the challenges of secondary education.

Qualification Requirements

You will usually need to hold a 2:2 (or above) honours degree from a UK Higher Education institution or an equivalent qualification and be deemed suitable to train to teach by the School of Education at the University of Sunderland. Our typical offer is 57% - 60% from a recognised university, a 3 year (4 year for Engineering) graduation degree from an AICTE / UGC recognised University. If English isn't your first language, you'll also need International English Language Testing System (IELTS) at a score of 6.5, with at least 6.5 in writing, and no section below 6.0.
