The Department of Architecture's research encompasses a broad spectrum, spanning from building and urban performance analysis to design evaluation. Our faculty members contribute diverse specializations that PhD candidates both enhance and broaden. We welcome applications from students aligned with our existing focus areas and faculty expertise, as well as those introducing novel research inquiries. The department's innovative research bridges humanities, physical sciences, and social sciences, tackling challenges in resilient energy systems, healthy environments, building performance assessment, urban analytics, heritage conservation, and retrofit solutions. Our work embodies architecture and urbanism's inherently interdisciplinary character, targeting practical issues to enhance quality of life. Pioneering sustainable solutions that meet governmental, industrial, and societal demands, we spearhead investigations into human-city dynamics within our rapidly urbanizing, climate-impacted world.
You'll need a first-class or upper second-class UK Honours degree, or overseas equivalent, in any discipline. Previous research or industrial experience isn't necessary but is advantageous. IELTS (Academic): 6.5 overall (no individual band less than 5.5)
TOEFL (ibt): 80 overall, with the following minimum scores in each component: Listening: 17 Reading: 18 Speaking: 20 Writing: 18.
