The PGDE follows a modular structure with three year-long components:Education Studies; Professional ValuesProfessional Learning Through EnquiryProfessional SkillsProfessional Skills - Curriculum and PedagogyProfessional Skills - Professional PracticeThe program alternates between campus instruction and placement-based learning, with cumulative skill development.Campus sessions introduce curriculum frameworks, facilitate peer collaboration, and help develop lesson plans and teaching materials. You'll practice micro-teaching and discover creative methods to inspire young learners.Placement experienceEighteen weeks are dedicated to placements in Scottish schools, where you'll demonstrate competency against the Standards for Provisional Registration.Full-time attendance at your placement school is mandatory, including staff development days unless otherwise instructed.Placements allow you to apply classroom knowledge, refine your teaching approach, acquire new strategies, and build connections with students.Maintain a professional portfolio during placement, which documents your progress toward registration standards and lays the foundation for lifelong learning.Career prospects

Qualification Requirements

An ordinary degree, or international equivalent. Degree must include: 80 SCQF credits in the language you wish to teach (if you wish to teach your native language, All the languages taught in Scotland are valuable – there is no hierarchy of language. The entry requirements outlined take account of the context in which languages are taught. Where possible, applicants should offer more than one language. The University of Strathclyde requires a minimum overall score of IELTS 6.5 (no individual test score below 5.5) or equivalent. Tests are valid for two years. TOEFL ibt - 80 overall, with the following minimum scores in each component-(Listening- 17, Reading- 18, Speaking- 20, Writing- 18).
