Empower tomorrow's designers and creators by showing students how to tackle real-world challenges and develop their own products.
You'll discover cutting-edge classroom initiatives and expose young minds to novel materials and technologies. Our Secondary Design and Technology PGCE will also provide you with the tools to become a self-assured, effective educator for both KS3 and KS4 levels.
Through local school placements, you'll design dynamic lessons, learn behavior management methods, and understand student learning processes. On campus, we'll facilitate subject-focused teaching reflections and offer personalized guidance.
Beyond teacher certification, you'll gain exclusive access to our Institute of Education's latest classroom research and evidence-based teaching methodologies.
During the PGCE interview, you'll select one of two GCSE specializations: either a comprehensive Design and Technology track covering materials, textiles, and electronics, or a Food Preparation and Nutrition pathway.
This 36-week school-based program features a three-week orientation before placements, plus weekly curriculum development sessions.
You'll complete over 120 days across two secondary schools and a primary school, gradually building teaching confidence - starting with classroom observations and group assistance before progressing to co-teaching and independent lessons.
Beyond instruction, you'll immerse yourself in school operations with support from professional mentors covering school culture, welfare systems, legal frameworks, and support services. Weekly subject mentor meetings will help refine your teaching approach and subject expertise.
