The Mental Health Nursing Practice program prepares students for careers supporting individuals with various mental health conditions including depression, psychosis, trauma, and dementia. Our students complete placements with two healthcare providers: Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and North Staffordshire Combined Healthcare NHS Trust. The program features unique learning approaches such as theatrical performances by AZ2B theatre company and mindfulness instruction. Graduates receive a BSc (Hons) in Nursing Practice (Mental Health).
This intensive program spans 45 weeks annually, divided equally between clinical placements and university-based learning.
Clinical rotations involve shift work to ensure comprehensive experience. Some coursework is shared with adult and pediatric nursing students, while other sessions involve interdisciplinary learning. This collaborative approach enhances knowledge sharing for improved patient care. The final year focuses exclusively on mental health, advancing skills in complex care situations and mindfulness-based cognitive therapies.
