Our BSc (Hons) Computer Games Design with Animation program blends technical expertise with creative artistry, preparing you for high demand in the gaming sector. You'll explore three core animation techniques – motion capture, hand-keyed animation, and technical animation – while having opportunities to focus on your preferred specialization. Develop 3D character models, animate them using body mechanics, and outfit them with accessories, vehicles, and weaponry. You'll also become proficient in crafting diverse game environments, from arid deserts to futuristic spacecraft.
To ensure your animated models function properly in game engines, you'll also learn essential game design principles and programming fundamentals.
As the UK's largest games department, we maintain strong industry ties with leading companies like Flix Interactive, Sumo Digital, Cloud Imperium Games, and animation specialists Carse and Waterman. These connections help you graduate with valuable professional networks and a standout portfolio.
You'll join the ranks of our distinguished alumni, many of whom now work with premier gaming studios.
The first year introduces fundamental game design concepts, game engine utilization, 3D asset creation, and game asset animation using industry-standard tools and methods. In your second year, select from specialized modules covering environment design, character modeling, lighting techniques, hand-keyed animation, hard-surface modeling, cinematic creation, and engine implementation. You'll also collaborate with peers to develop complete game projects.
