The PhD program, available in both Psychology and Neuroscience, is a research-focused degree typically completed in 3 years (or 6 years part-time). Students work under the guidance of one or more faculty members from the School, culminating in a thesis of up to 80,000 words and an oral defense (viva). The School of Psychology and Neuroscience provides both PhD and MSc (research) programs. Research in these fields generally aligns with four primary themes: cellular and developmental neuroscience, origins of mind, perception/cognition/action, and social/group processes. Scholars investigate diverse cognitive and perceptual phenomena, striving to develop comprehensive models of behavior and cognition. Their research explores fundamental questions such as how we detect and interpret sensory information, the architecture of decision-making and memory systems, and neural mechanisms underlying action. Investigators employ various methodologies including neuroimaging, behavioral experiments, and other empirical approaches.
