The one-year MSc (by research) program, available in Psychology or Neuroscience, focuses entirely on an independent research project completed within 12 months (or part-time equivalent). Students work under the guidance of one or more faculty members from the School, culminating in a thesis not exceeding 30,000 words. Both the PhD and MSc (by research) aim to deliver personalized training, which may include tutorials with supervisors and staff, specialized courses within the School of Psychology and Neuroscience or related departments, workshops from University units like the Centre for Academic, Professional and Organisational Development, or external providers. Students are also encouraged to attend conferences, seminars, and workshops, both on and off campus.
Researchers in this group explore the neural mechanisms behind diverse behaviors and cognitive functions, such as movement, attention, reward processing, spatial memory, and social learning, as well as the impact of early steroid hormone exposure on brain and behavioral development. Their work has contributed to advancements in understanding neurological conditions like motor neuron disease, addiction, and Alzheimer's.
