The MPhil program typically spans two years. The initial year covers the coursework components of an MLitt, followed by a second year dedicated to writing a thesis with a maximum length of 40,000 words. Candidates possessing an appropriate Masters or MLitt qualification may qualify for direct entry into the MPhil's second year. Within the School, you'll join a vibrant academic community of around 80 postgraduate students based in the School's dedicated research center.
The Medieval and Renaissance (MedRen) research group fosters scholars and postgraduate researchers in the School of English focusing on literature from the Anglo-Saxon era through the 18th century. The group organizes various staff and postgraduate seminars and reading groups. Additionally, it offers research support and academic environment for two period-specific MLitt programs: the MLitt in Medieval English and the MLitt in Shakespeare and Renaissance Literary Culture.
