The MPhil is a two-year program tailored for students and professionals holding a degree in Chemistry or a related field. The first year consists of structured coursework, followed by a dedicated research phase in Year 2. Over these two years, participants acquire advanced theoretical knowledge in Chemistry while honing their research capabilities through two key projects:
a summer research initiative in Year 1, concluding with a 15,000-word thesis, and a comprehensive year-long research endeavor in Year 2, culminating in a dissertation not exceeding 60,000 words. This program is ideal for those seeking to deepen their chemical expertise and research proficiency, often serving as preparation for subsequent PhD studies.
MPhil duration: typically two years. Year 1 combines academic instruction with a research component, while Year 2 is devoted entirely to research, resulting in a maximum 60,000-word dissertation.
In the evolving landscape of the 21st Century, functional materials emerge as crucial catalysts for scientific and technological advancement. This dynamic field involves creating, analyzing, and optimizing various functional solids with applications spanning energy systems, environmental technologies, information storage, and cryogenics. The development and implementation of these materials intersect with multiple research domains, notably influencing EaStCHEM's focus areas in Catalysis, Synthesis, and Sustainable Chemistry. A fundamental aspect of material innovation lies in structural analysis across different scales, prompting active collaboration between Functional Materials specialists and researchers in Structural Chemistry and Chemical Dynamics.
