Students who have substantial undergraduate training in Social Anthropology (typically comparable to a first-class honors BA in the field) may qualify for direct entry into the Master of Studies (MSt) by Research program. This research-focused degree consists entirely of personalized supervision with an assigned faculty member, without any formal coursework. Assessment is based solely on a 30,000-word dissertation covering a subject of the student's selection, evaluated by both internal and external examiners. Prospective applicants should consult with the Department prior to submission to review their research proposal and potential supervisors. The program duration is one year of full-time study.
