As an MA (Hons) French student, you'll refine your language and communication abilities to an advanced level. The curriculum covers specialized subjects such as French linguistics, literature, cultural studies, history, political science, and cinema. In your third year, you can participate in study abroad opportunities at one of the University's Erasmus partner institutions in France. This combined program integrates Modern Languages (French and German) with Ancient History at a research-intensive level, teaching students how knowledge is developed, expanded, and revitalized. The course fosters independent scholarship characterized by inquisitiveness, precision, academic integrity, and thoroughness. Spanning 60 months, this program culminates in a Master of Arts (Honours) degree. Like all St Andrews degree programs, it follows a modular credit system requiring students to complete 540 credits, typically earning 120 credits annually. The initial two years focus on program-specific core modules alongside elective options (which may include interdisciplinary courses). Subsequent years emphasize specialized, research-driven study through program-tailored advanced modules.
