This program offers advanced study of German and Russian through research-focused instruction, enabling students to explore how knowledge is developed, expanded, and revitalized. It fosters independent learning among all participants, emphasizing curiosity, integrity, precision, and academic rigor. Spanning 60 months, the curriculum leads to a Master of Arts (Honours) degree. Like all St Andrews programs, it consists of credit-based modules, requiring students to complete 540 credits total—typically 120 per academic year. The initial two years combine mandatory program-specific courses with elective options (sometimes including interdisciplinary Faculty selections). Subsequent years focus on specialized, research-driven modules that deepen subject expertise. The first two years blend core program requirements with diverse elective choices (potentially spanning multiple Faculties), while later years concentrate on advanced, discipline-specific research learning.
