The MA (Hons) in French is a four or five-year program offered by the School of Modern Languages. During the initial two years, students enhance their French language abilities while exploring diverse aspects of French literature, culture, and civilization. This curriculum involves advanced, research-focused study of both French and Latin, helping students comprehend how knowledge evolves and progresses. The program fosters independent learning characterized by curiosity, precision, academic rigor, and ethical scholarship. Spanning 48 months, it culminates in a Master of Arts (Honours) degree. Like all St Andrews degree programs, it consists of credit-based courses, requiring students to complete 480 credits (typically 120 per year). The first two years generally combine mandatory program-specific courses with elective options (sometimes including interdisciplinary modules). Subsequent years focus on specialized, research-driven coursework tailored to the program's academic focus.
