As an MA (Hons) French student, you'll refine your language and communication abilities to an advanced proficiency level. The program offers exploration of specialized subjects such as French linguistics, literature, cultural studies, historical contexts, political systems, and cinematic arts. In your third year, you can participate in study abroad opportunities at one of the University's Erasmus partner institutions in France. This curriculum combines advanced French studies with International Relations, fostering research-based learning where students discover how knowledge evolves and progresses. The program cultivates independent scholarship characterized by curiosity, precision, academic rigor, and ethical inquiry. Spanning 48 months, this course leads to a Master of Arts (Honours) degree. Like all St Andrews programs, it consists of modular credit units, requiring students to complete 480 credits (typically 120 per academic year). The initial two years incorporate both mandatory program-specific modules and elective options (sometimes including cross-faculty courses), while subsequent years focus on specialized, research-oriented advanced studies.
