The MA (Hons) in Film Studies is a four-year program offered by the Department of Film Studies. During the initial two years, students explore fundamental concepts, theories, and methodologies in Film Studies, along with various approaches for analyzing cinema and visual media historically. This prepares them for more advanced, specialized Honors-level courses. The curriculum combines Film Studies with Theological Studies at an advanced, research-focused level, helping students grasp how knowledge evolves and progresses. The program fosters independent learning, emphasizing curiosity, integrity, precision, and academic rigor. Spanning 48 months, it culminates in a Master of Arts (Honours) degree. Like all St Andrews programs, it consists of credit-based modules, requiring students to complete 480 credits (typically 120 per year). The first two years feature core program modules alongside elective options (sometimes including cross-faculty courses), while later years focus on advanced, research-driven specialization.
