This program offers advanced, research-focused study of English and Italian, enabling students to explore how knowledge is developed, expanded, and refreshed. It fosters independent learning among all participants, promoting curiosity, precision, academic integrity, and rigorous scholarship. Spanning 60 months, the course leads to a Master of Arts (Honours) degree. Like all St Andrews programs, it consists of credit-based modules, requiring students to complete 540 credits total, typically earning 120 credits per academic year. The initial two years combine mandatory program-specific modules with elective options (sometimes including interdisciplinary Faculty choices). Subsequent years deliver specialized, research-driven instruction through tailored advanced modules. The first two years blend core program requirements with selected electives (potentially from other Faculties), while later years focus on discipline-specific advanced studies through research-oriented coursework.
