The MA (Hons) in Mediaeval History equips students to analyze intricate concepts and forms of communication throughout medieval Europe and the Middle East. You'll examine challenging historical questions while developing a solid grasp of how past events shape our modern world. This four-year program, offered by the School of History, begins with foundational studies of medieval Britain, Europe, and the Middle East (500-1500 AD) during the initial two years. Students establish core historical knowledge while learning to evaluate primary materials critically. The curriculum combines advanced research in Economics and Medieval History with training in academic inquiry, fostering independent scholarship characterized by thoroughness, precision, and intellectual discipline.
This 48-month Master of Arts (Honours) degree requires completion of 480 credits, typically 120 credits annually. The first half of the program features compulsory courses alongside elective options (sometimes including cross-disciplinary modules), while later years focus on specialized, research-driven study tailored to the discipline's current scholarship.
