The Master of Arts (Honours) in Latin is a four-year program offered by the School of Classics. First-year students with no prior Latin experience will begin with introductory language and literature courses, while those with advanced Latin background will enroll in higher-level modules combining literary analysis with language exercises. During the second year, all students advance their understanding of Latin literature through comprehensive studies of both Republican and Imperial-era prose and poetry, while further developing language skills for Honors-level work. This research-intensive program explores Comparative Literature and Latin at an advanced level, teaching students how academic knowledge evolves through rigorous scholarship. The curriculum fosters independent learning characterized by intellectual curiosity, precision, and academic integrity. Spanning 48 months, this degree requires completion of 480 credits (typically 120 per year), with initial years combining core program requirements with elective options (potentially including cross-faculty courses). Later years focus on specialized, research-driven study within the discipline.
