The MA (Hons) in Film Studies is a four-year program offered by the Department of Film Studies. During the initial two years, students explore fundamental concepts, theories, and methodologies in Film Studies, along with various approaches to cinema history and visual media analysis. This prepares them for more advanced, specialized Honors-level coursework. The curriculum combines Biblical Studies and Film Studies at an intensive, research-focused level, teaching students how knowledge evolves and expands. The program fosters independent learning, emphasizing curiosity, precision, and academic excellence. Spanning 48 months, it culminates in a Master of Arts (Honours) degree. Like all St Andrews degrees, it consists of credit-based modules requiring 480 credits total (typically 120 per year). The first two years feature core program modules alongside elective options (sometimes from other faculties), while later years concentrate on advanced, research-driven studies tailored to the discipline.
