The MA (Hons) in Classical Studies is a four-year program offered by the School of Classics. During the initial two years, students examine Greek and Roman literature, art, and cultural heritage. In the first year, learners engage with seminal works of ancient Greek and Roman civilization, including Homer's epic poems, Athenian drama and philosophy, and the artistic accomplishments of Augustan Rome. This curriculum provides advanced, research-focused instruction in Biblical Studies and Classical Studies, fostering an appreciation for how academic knowledge evolves. The program cultivates independent scholarship characterized by intellectual curiosity, precision, and academic rigor. Spanning 48 months, it culminates in a Master of Arts (Honours) degree. Like all St Andrews degree programs, it comprises credit-bearing courses, requiring students to complete 480 credits (typically 120 per year). The first two years combine mandatory program-specific courses with elective options (sometimes including interdisciplinary offerings). Subsequent years feature specialized, research-driven modules tailored to the discipline.
