The MA (Hons) in Art History develops your ability to critically evaluate diverse artworks while enhancing visual and verbal communication skills. This program primarily examines painting, sculpture, and architecture while also covering applied arts, graphic design, performance art, and photography. Throughout your studies, you'll master techniques for assessing artistic style, content, meaning, and theoretical foundations while employing various critical perspectives to uncover both overt and subtle concepts in artistic creations. This four-year honors program, offered by the School of Art History, integrates elements from economic, social, and political history alongside literature, philosophy, and psychology to provide comprehensive analytical frameworks. First-year curriculum explores two key areas: European and global medieval/Renaissance art - emphasizing production contexts and cultural exchanges - and 17th-18th century European art and architecture, focusing on technological innovations, expanding viewership, and colonial influences.
