Typically a one-year program centered on developing and implementing an original research study. The research project accounts for approximately two-thirds of the year, while the remaining time is allocated to coursework and writing an MPhil thesis in chemistry. Students intending to pursue a PhD must initially enroll in the MPhil program. After one year, they may transition to PhD status by submitting a brief thesis outlining their research goals and initial findings. The standard duration for completing a PhD is three years following admission to the graduate program. Southampton's chemistry department boasts a vibrant research community of 200 members. Annually, we welcome over 50 postgraduate students from diverse academic backgrounds to pursue chemistry research degrees. Although much of our work originates from fundamental scientific principles, we are deeply committed to applying our discoveries to create meaningful real-world applications.
