A Master's by Research program enables students to undertake an independent, supervised research project on a chosen topic. Upon completion, candidates submit a thesis not exceeding 40,000 words. Like other research degrees, assessment involves two stages: thesis evaluation followed by an oral defense. This program offers flexible study options - full-time or part-time, on-campus or remotely (where feasible). The duration is typically one year full-time or two years part-time, available across most disciplines. Unlike taught programs, this research-focused degree requires no classroom attendance. Full-time students should dedicate approximately 35 weekly hours to independent study, while part-time students commit around 12 hours. Each postgraduate researcher receives guidance from an expert supervisory team who assist in developing the research project, provide ongoing feedback, and support through to successful completion.
