A Master's by Research program enables you to undertake an independent, supervised research project on a topic of your choosing. Upon completion, you'll submit a thesis not exceeding 40,000 words. Like all research degrees, assessment involves two stages: thesis evaluation followed by an oral examination. You can pursue this degree full-time or part-time, either on campus or remotely, depending on your research requirements. The program duration is one year full-time or two years part-time, available across most disciplines. Unlike taught programs, the Master's by Research focuses solely on independent study without scheduled classes. Full-time students should dedicate approximately 35 hours weekly to their research, while part-time students commit around 12 hours. Each postgraduate researcher receives guidance from an expert supervisory team who provide project direction, progress feedback, and support throughout the research journey.
