A Master's by Research program enables students to undertake an independent, supervised research project on a chosen approved topic. Upon completion, candidates submit a thesis not exceeding 40,000 words. Like all research degrees, assessment involves two stages: thesis evaluation followed by an oral examination. This program offers flexible study options, available full-time or part-time, either on-campus or remotely (where research permits). The duration is typically one year for full-time students or two years part-time, covering most academic disciplines. Unlike taught programs, the Master's by Research focuses solely on independent study with no scheduled classes. Full-time learners should dedicate approximately 35 weekly hours to their research, while part-time students commit around 12 hours. Each postgraduate researcher receives guidance from an expert supervisory team who provide project development support, progress feedback, and academic mentorship throughout the research journey.
