Social work stands out as one of the most rewarding careers for those passionate about helping others. Societal inequalities and systemic injustices frequently create challenges for individuals accessing social services. The field of social work recognizes these obstacles and strives to empower people to navigate their circumstances while driving meaningful improvements. At USW, our social work program aligns with the All Wales Assessment Framework, incorporating both the National Occupational Standards for Social Work and Social Care Wales' Code of Professional Practice. Completing this program grants you the essential qualification needed to register as a professional social worker. UCAS applicants may qualify for financial support through Social Care Wales bursaries (terms and conditions apply). Our degree blends theoretical learning with hands-on experience, dedicating 50% of the program to practical placements across statutory, voluntary, and third-sector organizations. These real-world experiences strengthen your competencies and prepare you for professional practice.

Earning a social work degree provides a legally protected professional designation. Graduates gain eligibility to register as social workers, entering a field renowned for continuous learning and strong career advancement prospects. With consistent demand across the sector, graduates typically secure employment quickly after completing their studies. Diverse career paths exist across multiple specializations and work environments. Whether your interest lies in supporting elderly populations, families, children, or individuals with disabilities, this profession offers deeply fulfilling career possibilities. Wales currently employs approximately 5,500 social workers, and growing needs ensure excellent prospects for qualified graduates. Most new social workers obtain positions within six months of qualification, with attractive starting salaries reflecting the profession's value.
