For those lacking the necessary qualifications for direct entry into the BSc (Hons) Professional Policing degree's first year, our foundation program provides an accessible pathway. This initial year delivers structured support through a comprehensive policing and security curriculum. Successful completion allows progression to the professional policing degree's first year, which aligns with all National Police Curriculum standards set by the College of Policing for pre-join degrees. The program explores essential topics including counterterrorism operations, undercover policing, legal frameworks, crime scene investigation techniques, digital law enforcement, cybercrime, safeguarding vulnerable populations, and neighborhood policing strategies. Instruction comes from experienced former police professionals and academic experts, utilizing our exceptional campus facilities.
Our innovative BSc (Hons) Professional Policing degree equips students for various law enforcement careers, including police constable positions and support roles like community officers, dispatch operators, and crime analysts. As one of three approved pathways to becoming a police constable, this degree doesn't guarantee automatic police recruitment but offers significant advantages: graduates accepted into police service within five years of completion qualify for abbreviated initial training. All candidates must still meet standard police recruitment criteria regarding physical fitness, medical clearance, and security vetting. Our program specifically prepares students for police selection processes through practical training including fitness assessments, interview simulations, interactive evaluations, and application workshops. Students benefit from career guidance provided by our network of retired police professionals. The degree also opens doors to careers across the criminal justice sector, including opportunities with the Prison Service, intelligence agencies (MI5/MI6), and the National Crime Agency. Graduates may further their education through our MSc International Risk and Security program.
