The BDS Dental Surgery programme at Sheffield provides early practical dentistry experience through hands-on training.

Starting in year one, you'll observe dental clinics and begin understanding your responsibilities as a dental healthcare professional. With progressing experience, you'll refine your abilities during placements in general dental practices.

Our five-year curriculum is organized into nine interconnected themes, spanning from basic human anatomy to intermediate oral healthcare. The initial year covers human body systems and oral health fundamentals. Year two focuses on delivering complete care for patients across all age groups. The third year develops your ability to provide thorough, detail-oriented patient treatment.

In the concluding two years, you'll manage patients with more complex needs while learning to identify, diagnose, and prevent oral diseases. An optional global elective placement is also available.

International College (USIC) pathway students must pay an extra clinical placement fee included in years two through five tuition. For 2024-25 starters, this amounts to £46,190 for year one and £87,040 annually for subsequent years, with fees adjusted yearly for new intakes.
