Investigate crime trends, judicial responses, and law enforcement practices while developing the analytical mindset of a criminology professional.

For more than three decades, Sheffield's criminology program has maintained academic distinction through exceptional teaching and interdisciplinary research.

Using contemporary case studies, our curriculum starts with foundational courses that provide a critical perspective on criminal behavior and justice systems. First-year students enhance their research capabilities through the Skills for Criminologists module, focusing on critical analysis, scholarly writing, and information literacy.

The program offers extensive module options covering diverse topics including judicial systems, incarceration, substance abuse, and juvenile delinquency, with particular attention to how gender and ethnicity intersect with criminal justice processes.

Third-year students may pursue international study opportunities at our global partner institutions. The flexible curriculum allows specialization through elective courses, including cross-disciplinary options from Sociological Studies.

Graduates emerge with both theoretical knowledge and applied competencies—including qualitative research techniques and statistical software proficiency—preparing them for various careers requiring sophisticated analysis and solution-oriented thinking.
