Our school's language learning and acquisition researchers have explored both first- and second-language acquisition, examining contexts where language teaching methods, evaluation, educator training, and curriculum development play crucial roles. We study the cognitive mechanisms behind mastering all linguistic components, from pragmatics and semantics to syntax, phonology, and phonetics. Our work has a global perspective, frequently addressing intercultural communication and English's role as an international language in acquisition debates. As a research team, we bridge theoretical linguistics with practical classroom applications. We actively contribute to the academic community through journal peer reviews, collaborations with the British Council and DFID, and leadership roles in the UK Linguistics Olympiad. Our members participate in prominent organizations like BAAL, AAAL, LAGB, GALA, GASLA, and EUROSLA.
