Computer modeling and simulation techniques enable researchers to investigate and forecast material formation, structures, characteristics, and behavior across scales ranging from nano to macro.
This field employs computational models to study molecular-material interfaces that govern biological processes, material contamination, and microbial infection transmission. These simulations investigate: natural formation mechanisms of shells, bones, and teeth and their artificial reproduction, cellular and bacterial surface adhesion leading to biofilm formation, and the architecture of molecular assemblies including monolayers and proteins.
