The Geography Department fosters a dynamic research environment, with more than 30 faculty members and approximately 50 doctoral candidates exploring diverse subjects spanning both human and physical geography. Their investigations range from studying polar glacier melt effects to examining urban poverty housing challenges in the UK and global sustainable development concerns. These explorations are mirrored in our six interdisciplinary Research Clusters: Power, Policy and Place; Global South Geographies; Culture, Space and Identity; Ice and Climate Studies; Food, Water and Environment; and Landscape Evolution. Our doctoral candidates join through various funding channels, including university support and both national and international grants. As a Geography PhD researcher, you'll push the boundaries of geographical understanding during an era when our field plays a pivotal role in shaping discussions about environmental and societal transformations.
