Through studying the formation and behavior of functional materials, we explore various processing techniques to modify their characteristics and potential applications. Ceramics have long been a key focus within the Department of Materials Science and Engineering's research efforts. Our work encompasses both functional ceramics and conventional domains like refractories and structural ceramics. Ferroelectric and piezoelectric materials find uses in memory devices, sensors, and transducers. Our investigations concentrate on uncovering novel ferroelectric compounds and deciphering their fundamental crystal chemistry.
