Upon successfully finishing the foundation year with modules covering mathematics, physics, and chemistry, you'll be eligible to begin the MEng program.
Our core undergraduate curriculum explores the fundamental concepts of materials science and their practical applications in engineering scenarios. You can maintain a broad focus or customize your studies by selecting specialized materials modules.
Beyond traditional lectures and tutorials, you'll gain hands-on experience through practical work involving key manufacturing processes and cutting-edge analytical equipment.
During your first year, you'll participate in the Global Engineering Challenge, collaborating with peers from various engineering disciplines to devise innovative solutions to real-world problems faced by global communities. This initiative aims to cultivate your professional engineering skills while emphasizing sustainable approaches.
Should you develop a particular interest in a materials science specialization, you have the option to transfer to a more focused program before completing your second year.
Every MEng program includes a mandatory five-month paid industry placement, which could be located either in the UK or internationally. This valuable opportunity enhances your practical experience and strengthens your professional profile.
In the final two years of the MEng program, you'll engage in four Industrial Training Programs concentrating on nuclear, glass, aerospace, and advanced manufacturing sectors. These involve expert-led seminars, academic lectures, and site visits, where you'll apply your knowledge to address genuine industrial challenges.
