Your program explores both theoretical and applied concepts spanning electrical and electronic engineering disciplines. Fundamental subjects in this curriculum encompass power systems, power electronics, digital circuits, electronic components, electrical machinery, and drive systems. Alongside your third-year independent project, you'll collaborate on a research-intensive group project during your fourth year.
Gain expertise in designing, manufacturing, and implementing diverse electronic systems, circuit designs, components, and power networks.

Your coursework will include:

electrical equipment and energy networks including renewable energy systems and transmission infrastructure
electronic components, circuit designs, and integrated systems such as optical devices, processors, and computing systems
telecommunication equipment and networks including wireless transmission systems and next-generation mobile technologies.
You'll investigate both conceptual and hands-on elements across electronic and electrical engineering fields, while extensively utilizing computer-aided design software.

We provide numerous elective modules covering various aspects of electrical systems, electronic engineering, and communication technologies.

Our MEng program emphasizes industrial applications and practical implementation of technical knowledge more than our BEng degree. Through comprehensive project work, you'll cultivate valuable professional skills including collaborative teamwork, analytical reasoning, solution development, and effective communication - all enhancing your career prospects.

First-year students participate in our faculty's Global Engineering Challenge, collaborating across disciplines to address authentic engineering challenges. Second-year students undertake week-long industry-sponsored projects. You may also gain professional experience through our Sheffield Industrial Project Scheme with engineering firms.

After your second year, you can select a specialization or continue with our broad-based electrical and electronic engineering program, which remains our most sought-after option.
