The industrial placement year serves as an extension to the MEng Chemical Engineering program. Our dedicated careers and placements team will assist you in securing a suitable position, where you'll spend a minimum of 38 weeks gaining professional experience.

Your first three years will be spent studying in Sheffield, where you'll explore process design and operations for manufacturing various products like pharmaceuticals, plastics, food items, advanced materials, and fuels. The curriculum also covers energy production and utilization principles.

Our alumni successfully pursue careers across diverse chemical engineering sectors, including biopharmaceuticals and digital manufacturing, demonstrating the program's comprehensive preparation.

Practical learning forms a core component of our approach. Through laboratory sessions, project work, and complex problem-solving exercises, you'll develop valuable hands-on skills.

Our pilot plant facility offers unique opportunities to scale up theoretical knowledge using industrial-grade equipment, bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world applications.

The placement between your third and fourth year allows you to expand your professional network, contextualize academic knowledge, and develop workplace competencies that enhance your career prospects.

You'll receive comprehensive placement support from both departmental careers advisors and faculty employability specialists.
