Enhance your knowledge of social work theories and their real-world applications to grow into a skilled, thoughtful, and analytical professional in the field.
Our two-year Social Work MA program provides both a master's degree and a professional qualification accredited by Social Work England.

You'll engage in diverse learning approaches, guided by passionate, dedicated, and research-focused academics with extensive social work experience. Instruction also comes from practicing professionals, fellow students, service users, and specialists from various sectors, helping you grasp how theory translates into social work practice.

Alongside university coursework, you'll complete two 100-day statutory placements in South Yorkshire. Through our partnership with the South Yorkshire Teaching Partnership (SYTP), you'll gain hands-on experience across five local authorities, working in areas like child and family services, adult care, and mental health teams. Learn more about placements below.
Placements
As part of the SYTP, our Social Work MA includes two 100-day placements in either child or adult statutory care settings. These are designed to provide diverse experiences in modern social work practice, enriching your professional development.

Each placement lasts 100 consecutive days, fulfilling Social Work England's 200-day practice requirement—a distinctive feature of our SYTP collaboration.

During placements, you'll build connections with local authorities, improving your employment prospects within the SYTP network and wider field after graduation.

Career Prospects
All our graduates secure employment or pursue further studies within fifteen months of completing the program (Graduate Outcomes Data, 2020/21).
The Social Work program equips you with transferable skills from coursework and placements. You can also utilize faculty career services, gaining support and opportunities to distinguish yourself professionally.
Graduates receive guaranteed interviews with our local authority partners upon completing the course.
