The foundation year of this program offers students with non-traditional qualifications comprehensive academic preparation to ensure their success in degree-level studies within the School of East Asian Studies. After successfully completing the foundation year, students will advance to the BA East Asian Studies program.
This preparatory year is thoughtfully structured to boost your confidence, cultivate key academic and learning skills, and deliver the specialized knowledge needed for achievement. You'll learn within the Department for Lifelong Learning, which brings nearly four decades of expertise in supporting mature students to realize their potential for university-level education.

To be eligible to apply, you should:
Have been out of formal full-time Level 3 education (usually A-Levels or Access courses) for 2+ years
Have potential to succeed on your chosen course, evidenced by a combination of work, life and prior educational experience
Have an understanding and commitment to the subject-area of your chosen course
Be prepared for the demands that undergraduate degree level study will place upon you
Be 21 or over
IELTS - Overall score of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each component, TOEFL - Overall score of 80 with a minimum of 17 in Listening, 18 in Reading, 20 in Speaking and 17 in Writing, Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic, PTE Academic UKVI - Overall score of 56 with a minimum of 51 in each component.
