Photography has emerged as the dominant medium for people to document and share their everyday experiences. This innovative program examines photography's potential when collaborating with communities to shape culturally significant work. Delivered through a joint initiative by the University of Salford and Open Eye Gallery, the course connects students with working professionals and scholars to reconsider photography's societal role while advancing creative skills and career development. Participants will receive guidance on creating artistic works for both cultural and non-cultural sectors, focusing on producing socially relevant art that resonates with viewers and collaborators alike. Through hands-on projects with organizations in healthcare, youth services, community development, and justice reform - all grounded in critical theory and ethical practice - students will gain practical experience. The program offers career-focused workshops covering legal considerations, ethical guidelines, and professional branding, including complimentary Axisweb membership and an online portfolio. Students can participate in national discussions and access Open Eye Gallery's extensive network for community-focused photographic work.

Designed to launch careers in the arts, this program equips students to apply their skills in socially conscious photography to real-world initiatives. Graduates may enter Open Eye Gallery's Associates program, connecting with peers to exchange knowledge, effective methods, and collaborative prospects. Alumni often pursue specialized work in environments like correctional facilities, youth organizations, healthcare institutions, and educational settings. The curriculum explores various pathways for building professional standing in these fields. Completing photographers emerge as independent professionals, prepared for diverse opportunities from formal residencies to community projects. They'll possess knowledge of funding sources across artistic and non-artistic sectors, strategies for promoting their work, and methods for cultivating valuable connections. The school organizes numerous entrepreneurial programs to support graduates in launching their careers or establishing independent practices.
