This program offers hands-on experience in cutting-edge laboratories, opportunities for domestic and international field excursions, and the chance to lead your own research initiative. You'll explore engaging subjects like Life Chemistry, involving laboratory work to examine cellular structures, evolution, and biochemistry; Comparative Zoology, covering vertebrate anatomy and physiological development; and Brain Health and Disorders, providing insights into neurobiology and groundbreaking brain research advancements.
Your academic journey starts with foundational biological concepts, spanning cellular processes, ecological systems, evolutionary theory, and comprehensive studies of major animal and plant classifications. You'll examine biochemical principles and human physiology while comparing them with other organisms, while honing analytical techniques for evaluating both laboratory and field research data.
During your second year, you can specialize in subjects that captivate you, selecting from our extensive module offerings covering ecological systems, evolutionary studies, animal behavior patterns, molecular biology, physiological processes, and immune system functions. The curriculum includes an immersive field study program in rural Wales, where you'll gain practical experience in both field observation and laboratory data analysis techniques.
