When we consider candidates for degree programmes at Roehampton, we take account of the full application. Our offers are not based solely on academic results: we take into consideration applicants' skills, achievements and life experience. Students who have not achieved, or do not expect to achieve, these entry requirements may still consider making an application.
Admission is also conditional on receipt of a satisfactory declaration of health for which information and guidance will be provided, a child protection declaration and a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) clearance form, which we will provide. Information on this declaration is available from Local Authorities.
It is really helpful to gain some experience in primary schools or other educational environments prior to applying for Initial Teacher Education. This may include, or be in addition to, work experience in Year 10, for example volunteering, or as a helper in school or a Teaching Assistant. If you are invited to an interview this experience can inform part of the discussion however, we understand this may be difficult for you and it is not compulsory for any candidate
It is essential that candidates for teacher education have sound spelling, grammar, punctuation and expression. Shortcomings here are the most frequent reason for offering an alternative non-teaching programme.
All applicants, however, must satisfy requirements laid down by the DfE: they must have achieved a standard equivalent to at least a grade 4 (C) in GCSE English language, mathematics and a science subject. Candidates must have achieved two of the three required GCSEs before submitting an application.
Candidates without a GCSE grade 4 (C), or equivalent in English, mathematics and a science may be able to take an equivalent test set by a university-approved body. Details are available from the Equivalency Testing website.
