This program prepares you for a career as a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) in the NHS while earning a master's-level qualification. It blends components from the University's BSc Psychology and the Charlie Waller Institute's prestigious Postgraduate Certificate in Evidence-Based Psychological Treatments. The degree also serves as excellent preparation for advanced studies in clinical psychology.
During the initial two years, you'll gain foundational knowledge in cognition, neuroscience, developmental psychology, personality studies, and social psychology. These subjects receive more intensive examination in the second year. The third year focuses on specialized clinical training, including a practical placement within a Mental Health Trust's Talking Therapies service. This hands-on experience directly informs skill-building clinical modules.
Your final year features master's-level coursework with diverse optional modules that allow deeper exploration of specialized interests. The curriculum continuously evolves to reflect cutting-edge developments in clinical psychology, maintaining the relevance of your expertise. Recent module offerings have covered clinical psychology methodologies, affective neuroscience, and clinical neuropsychology. For those interested in international study, a term abroad at a partner institution is available during the final year.
