For those seeking to advance their studies in Pharmacy, Pharmacology, and Biomedical Sciences, Portsmouth offers an exceptional environment to pursue your academic goals. Our research in these fields concentrates on expanding knowledge about healthy bodily functions, disease mechanisms, and the genetic/molecular factors behind physical and mental health conditions. Our investigations span molecular, cellular, physiological, and behavioral processes during both wellness and illness. We're discovering and analyzing disease biomarkers while collaborating with industry partners to translate drug discoveries into clinical treatments. The Institute of Biological and Biomedical Sciences (IBBS) serves as the primary hub for much of this work. Notable IBBS achievements include studies on microporous materials for environmental and pharmaceutical applications, sperm cryopreservation techniques to minimize animal testing, and advancements in endoscopic procedures and training to enhance patient care. In the latest Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021), all our impact case studies in Allied Health Professions, Dentistry, Nursing, and Pharmacy received top ratings for their extensive reach and importance.

Qualification Requirements
The entry requirements for a PhD, or MPhil include an upper second class honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject, or a master's degree in an appropriate subject. Equivalent professional experience and/or qualifications may be considered. All applicants are subject to interview.
